Is Ai Ruining Future Generations?

Introduction

In recent years, AI has seen a massive expansion, reaching all aspects of the web and infiltrating the day-to-day lives of every person. Ai can be found just about anywhere as long as you’re looking closely enough. From lesson plans to social media, it seems like AI has taken over all aspects of life that require any level of creativity or critical thinking. So, the question arises, is AI ruining the potential of future generations?

School

AI in school has been a highly debated topic over the past few years. While it can assist with creating lesson plans and explain research topics in a nutshell, students who lack the desire or work ethic often turn to popular AI tools like Chat GPT or Copy AI to have work done for them. The new age of AI and the complete access to it leaves students who rely on these tools with gaps in their education, setting them up for a future of struggles as they skim through their education with plagiarized work. Therefore, AI diminishes the integrity and quality of education. AI in classrooms pushes the idea that genuine and creative ideas are inferior to work created by AI and that students don’t need to apply effort in their classes as long as they have AI in their back pocket.

Jobs

The idea of AI taking over our jobs is not a new one. Machines have already confiscated the jobs of millions and AI has already affected 40% of jobs globally. Even more so, AI is predicted to eliminate millions of jobs in 2025 alone. The world is moving towards a new digital age. One where, if companies can save money by purchasing a robot or an AI system to do your job, they will. Thus, AI is ruining the potential for future generations by decreasing the amount of jobs available and furthering an already competitive job market.

Social Media

Social media has integrated the use of AI into nearly every platform available. From Chat GPT to Gemini, and let’s not forget Meta, AI "assistants” can be found on most major social media apps, as well as shopping sites and basic customer service pages. The use of AI integration into social media is controversial. Some say AI’s presence is helpful and makes navigating these sites easier. However, others say that its presence is unwanted and unnecessary. Nonetheless, the widespread increase of AI within mainstream media platforms has substantially increased. While some may argue that AI makes their experience easier, AI assistants further disconnect people from each other. And, isn’t that the whole point of social media?

Conclusion

Overall, AI’s impact on people’s day-to-day life has grown significantly in recent years and will continue to grow further in future years. Growth in AI will take away the jobs of millions of workers around the world, decrease the quality of education for future generations, lessen creative and independent thinking, and will reduce person-to-person interactions - all of which clearly illustrate that AI is ruining future generations.
