DeGeorge, Garcia Duo Boosts ‘Shirts Past Undefeated KM, 62-53
Juniors Keegan DeGeorge and Jordan Garcia delivered yet another standout performance in the young season Tuesday night as the Blackshirts pulled away to defeat the undefeated Kettle Moraine Lasers, 62-53. The win was fueled by balanced scoring, strong defensive pressure, and timely runs that shifted momentum throughout the game.
South started the game trailing 9-6 but quickly responded with a 10-0 run that included two twos, a three-pointer, and three free throws. The Blackshirts scored 26 in the first half, capitalizing on 10 Kettle Moraine turnovers for 11 points. DeGeorge led the team with 14 points in the half, with Junior Jordan Garcia ending the half with 7 assists and 5 steals. Waukesha South shot 47% on two-pointers (7/15), 27% from three (3/11), and 50% from the free-throw line (3/6), establishing early control against a team that had entered the matchup 5-0.
The Blackshirts extended their lead in the second half, scoring 36 points on efficient shooting. Senior Isaiah Crawford led the team with 10 points in the half, complementing DeGeorge’s first-half performance. South converted eight points off 11 turnovers and added two points from two offensive rebounds. The Shirts went on two critical 8-0 runs, widening the gap and ultimately sealing the victory. They shot 56% on twos (10/18), 50% on threes (3/6), and 50% from the line (7/14), showcasing a well-rounded offensive attack.
South finished the game with 19 points off turnovers, thanks to 15 steals, including six from Jordan Garcia. DeGeorge led the team with 23 points and five rebounds, while Garcia also contributed 13 assists, conducting the offense and anchoring the team defensively with six steals. The Blackshirts shot 46% from the field (23/50), including 35% from three (6/17) and 52% on two-pointers (17/33). They passed effectively, recording 15 assists, adding two from Garcia’s 13, on 23 made baskets, and got to the free-throw line 20 times. Three major scoring runs, 10-0, 8-0, 8-0, proved to be the decisive factor in controlling the game.
Seniors Isaiah Crawford and Luke Trendel, Juniors De’Adrian Nichols, Jackson Berrong, and Richie Leckie, and Freshman Lucas Ortega all contributed, highlighting the team’s depth and balance. Kettle Moraine shot well inside the arc (19/24 on twos) but could not overcome the Shirts' pressure, timely runs, and efficient scoring, marking the Lasers’ first loss of the season.
South will now carry momentum into their next game, a road matchup at the defending D1 State Champion Wisconsin Lutheran on Thursday, looking to build on a performance defined by scoring balance, defensive intensity, and clutch execution.
