Shirts Down Watertown 74-68, Snap 10-Game Losing Skid
At the 1430 ESPN Beaver Dam Slam at the Dam, which was postponed Thanksgiving weekend due to the snowy weather, the Blackshirts delivered one of their most resilient performances of the season, defeating the Watertown Goslings 74-68 at Beaver Dam High School.
The victory was especially significant for South, as it snapped a 10-game losing streak and marked the program’s first win since January 23, avoiding what would’ve been an 11th straight loss. Playing a showcase stage for the second consecutive year after joining the event last season as a replacement for Milwaukee Vincent and facing Hartford, the Blackshirts made the most of their opportunity.
After trailing 32-28 at halftime, South erupted for 46 second-half points in a dramatic comeback effort. The first half was a struggle offensively, as the Blackshirts shot just 27% from two (3-for-11), 32% from three (6-for-19), and 67% from the free-throw line (4-for-6). However, seven offensive rebounds led to seven second-chance points, keeping them within reach.
The second half showcased a completely different team.
South shot a blistering 71% from two-point range (12-for-17) and 76% from the free-throw line (13-for-17). Though they connected on just 25% from beyond the arc (3-for-12), their dominance inside and aggressiveness attacking the rim fueled the rally.
Junior Keegan DeGeorge led the charge with 26 total points, including 17 in the second half. The Blackshirts also capitalized on key moments, scoring four points off three Watertown turnovers and adding seven points off eight offensive rebounds after halftime.
Momentum shifted when South went on two critical runs, a 7-0 burst followed later by a decisive 10-0 run after trailing 64-63. Junior Jordan Garcia controlled the glass in the second half with eight rebounds and finished with eight assists, while Senior Isaiah Crawford added 15 points and four blocks.
Despite allowing Watertown to grab 35 rebounds, including 16 offensive boards that led to 18 second-chance points, South’s execution in the final minutes sealed the comeback.
On a morning that tested resilience, toughness, and composure, the Blackshirts not only earned a statement win, but they also reignited their season.
